Jake Jenkins
Lighting Designer
I like to think of my lighting design approach as romanticist. I take a painterly approach to the stage, using light to shape space, place and mood. My lighting has ranged from the feral expansiveness of a desert island in 'Lord of the Flies' to the suffocating intimacy of Victorian London in 'Oliver!' I'm very proud of my ability to create striking and aesthetic looks using minimal equipment and time. This comes from my love and enthusiasm for the craft of a lighting designer and a deep understanding of the technology of lighting.
Finally, and most importantly, I love working collaboratively with similarly focused people to create great work from a collective vision. I believe theatre is the ultimate collaborative art form, and I love finding that sweet spot where everything (and everybody) works together to turn an idea into a visceral reality that can move, inspire or shock an audience.
I grew up in North Wales, then trained at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London, where I graduated with a first-class honours degree in Lighting Design. After living and working in London for 12 years, I moved to Toronto in 2024.
